We live in a digital age, so why bother with the traditional business card when you can text/email/post all your details directly to a person, perhaps with a picture to refresh their memory? Here are a few good reasons why the traditional paper card still reigns…
Firstly, business cards are great because they present your personal or professional brand in a visual and tactile way. In a world where first impressions mean everything, they allow you to stand out in a busy environment and (unlike your contact details on someone’s phone or in the contacts folder in their email) they are all unique!
Also, a side from being able to put your own slant or design on a business card, one that hopefully gives a sense of whom you represent or the services you offer, they can be pretty convenient! No running out of battery of losing reception, a business card gives you the chance to exchange information face to face, and with space to write a note.
In several cultures across the world (including Japan and South Korea) handing over business cards is considered a vital part of doing business. so don’t give up on the concept just yet. If all the power goes out, you’ll still have a way to network and stay memorable!
